Attitude is everything. Whether it is good or bad, your golf game, and your life, will follow suit. When you drive into the club parking lot, if you head straight to the back because you know there is not a chance of finding a parking place up front, you have already decreased your chances of having a good golf game.
Accepting small defeats with a smile, like walking past a parking place right up front, after parking one hundred yards away, will help you have a better golf game. This does not seem possible, but you can probably prove to yourself, that attitude is everything, quite easily.
Don’t even experiment with the negative side, but go ahead and make up your mind that whatever goes wrong that day, you are going to enjoy yourself, and keep a positive attitude.
When someone greets you in the morning, you can give a positive response even if you don’t feel positive. They will most likely respond positively. If you respond negatively, they will most likely switch to negative mode. This is just human nature.
If you ever canceled a golf game because it was raining, only to have it turn into the most beautiful day ever, you were faced with the choice of enjoying the day anyway, or spending the rest of the day complaining.
You cannot change the weather, but you can change your attitude. Who knows who you would have met if you had gone to the course in spite of the rain. You might have met someone with a positive attitude that was determined to have a good day, in spite of circumstances beyond their control.
Out on the tee you have the advantage of good clubs, the right brand of ball, and the wind is just right. Nothing can go wrong, except your attitude, and attitude is everything.
Just as noise can distract your shot, so can attitude. The guy behind you may be obnoxious. That has nothing to do with you. Everything is great, and there is no reason your shot won’t be great.
The second the club swings toward the ball you can tell it is going to be a good shot. This is a feeling all golfers have experienced. Having this happen all the time may not be possible, but having it happen more often is possible.
On days when you are having a great game, you might say you are on a winning streak. At the same time, your attitude is on a positive streak, and every time you get a good shot, your attitude improves. You feel like a winner, and as a result, your game is on top.
This is proof that attitude is everything, and winning is linked to attitude. People who win don’t come in scowling, they leave the eighteenth hole smiling.
They will drive home feeling good, and take their good attitude with them. They are more likely to yield to other drivers, and drive more safely. This feeling will usually last the rest of the day, and possibly for a few days longer. How long they keep a good attitude is up to them.
People can switch attitudes quite rapidly, and most would rather be in a good mood than a bad one. Keep a good attitude and it will be easier for the people around you to do so.
You can believe it, in golf and in life, attitude is everything.
