Fore! It’s more than just a word

Posted by George Kelly On March - 1 - 2010

To the average person, the word “fore” is interpreted simply as a number. “Four what?” might be their reply. No emotional response, no instant recognition, just a slightly puzzled look. For a golfer or golf enthusiast, the response is markedly different.

To a golfer the word “Fore!” invokes a completely different, and unique, range of emotions. If your are the one shouting fore! then you are most likely on the tee—perhaps at the first hole—about to partake in one of your favorite activities. Its your signal that its time to have a little well earned R&R. If your hear another golfer yell fore!, especially unexpectedly, then chances are your first thoughts are along the lines “duck and cover”, or at least they should be. But what is it about this almost magical word? Where did it come from and what does it really mean?

GOLF is fun…Isn’t it?

Posted by Kevin Reynolds On February - 26 - 2010

Golf, in my opinion, is one of the best times you can have. It can also be one of the worst. Playing golf is perfect when you are on the course with friends, you are loose and relaxed, the sun is shining everybody is a good mood and things are just clicking.

Have you ever had one of the days where the clubs just feel right in your hands? The ball is your friend. It goes wherever you want it to go. Remember how you felt like you had finally “gotten the game”? All the weeks, month and even years of playing and practicing had finally paid off. You were in the groove, the zone or whatever you want to call that elusive, magical mental space.

That is when you love, really love golf.

My Love of Golf and a Life of Crime

Posted by Kevin Reynolds On February - 25 - 2010

My love affair with golf and my entry into a “life of crime” started many years ago. As a small boy I lived near the Locust Valley Country Club in Attleboro, Massachusetts. My brother and I would watch the golfers play from the woods that separated our house from the golf course.

We watched the golf balls fly through the air and land where the golfers never intended! We would quickly run out and grab any errant balls that we could find, often leaving the golfers searching through the woody brush for their missing ball.  Oh, the frustration we caused (and the new language we were exposed too!)

Golf: Attitude Is Everything

Posted by Kevin Reynolds On November - 12 - 2009

Attitude is everything. Whether it is good or bad, your golf game, and your life, will follow suit. When you drive into the club parking lot, if you head straight to the back because you know there is not a chance of finding a parking place up front, you have already decreased your chances of having a good golf game.

Accepting small defeats with a smile, like walking past a parking place right up front, after parking one hundred yards away, will help you have a better golf game. This does not seem possible, but you can probably prove to yourself, that attitude is everything, quite easily.

The Joy of Golf

Posted by Kevin Reynolds On November - 4 - 2009

Nothing is more exciting to me than putting on my favorite golf shirt, preparing my bag, and heading out to tee off with some good friends.

I’ve always been an athlete, but there’s something different about golf. The often peaceful, and sometimes beautiful scenery is obvious a big plus. There’s no better way to clear your mind than with serenity and being away from the everyday world. On most courses, you don’t see or hear a car, hustling and bustling people, or any form of annoying noise. Only if you don’t like the sound of birds chirping might you have a problem.
